Mundan Pujan, also known as Mundan Sanskar or Chudakarana, is one of the sixteen sacred Hindu Samskaras performed during a child's early years. Pooja Procedure & Deliverables
Mundan Pujan begins with Ganesh Puja, Sankalpa, and Kalash Sthapana, followed by the worship of the family deity and other invoked deities. Vedic mantras are chanted while the child's first hair is ceremonially shaved by a barber or designated person in the presence of the priest. The shaved hair is traditionally offered at a sacred place or immersed according to family customs. The ceremony concludes with Havan, Aarti, blessings from elders, and the distribution of Prasad. Materials commonly required include a Kalash, coconut, flowers, kumkum, turmeric, sandalwood paste, Akshat (rice), sacred thread, Gangajal, betel leaves, fruits, sweets, new clothes for the child, Havan Samagri, ghee, camphor, incense, and other ritual items as prescribed by the officiating priest.
